Balaka: The State President Dr Joyce Banda has reiterated her commitment to changing people’s lives through the provision of decent homes to the less privileged through the Mudzi Transformation Trust.
She was speaking after handing over a house over the weekend to Eleneya Kasiyafumbi of Bilila Village, Traditional Authority Makwangwala in Balaka built through the Mudzi Transformation Trust.
President Banda said the Mudzi Transformation Trust is a long term project which was launched with the aim of improving livelihoods of the less privileged.

In her appreciation, Eleneya Kasiyafumbi expressed her gratitude after receiving the house saying her old dilapidated house was so small so that she used to share the one room with her goats and grandchild.
“I want to thank God and the government through Dr Joyce Banda for making it possible for me to own a house like this after I almost died when my old house fell on me during the rainy season. I hope this initiative continues so that more people benefit from it,” said Kasiyafumbi
Beneficiaries of the Mudzi Transformation Trust are identified through a consultation process at cluster level where a poor village is identified by all relevant stakeholders in the cluster and a report is passed on to the chiefs who then forward it to the project’s secretariat for assessment and possible intervention.
Mudzi Transformation is targeting 20,000 villages across the country and this may be translated to between 200,000 and 400,000 houses to be constructed by the end of the project’s five years.
President Banda then urged the people to vote her party into government in the forthcoming elections in order to ensure the continuation of such programmes that are in place for the needy people including the social cash transfer, fertilizer loan scheme, a cow a family, farm input subsidy programme and the Mudzi Transformation Trust among others.
